The Earthshot Prize — Official Nominator 2027

Nominator Badge issued by The Earthshot Prize.

Why we are doing this

We are the first Official Nominator based in this region.

The Earthshot Prize works through a network of more than 350 Official Nominators. Until now, none has been headquartered in Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Albania or Kosovo.

Nominations can only be submitted by an Official Nominator, so this is the first time solutions from here have had a direct route into the Prize.

What we look for

The criteria are the same for everyone.

We assess every expression of interest against the criteria The Earthshot Prize itself applies. Being put forward is not a favour. It is a judgement about whether a solution can compete globally.

We look for solutions that can show real impact to date. If yours is at an earlier stage, tell us anyway, and we will tell you plainly what would need to change.

  1. RelevanceDoes the solution address a challenge that is vital to achieving one of the five Earthshots?
  2. Systemic changeWould it create a permanent shift in how a system operates, replacing old patterns of harm with structures that enable environmental progress?
  3. A positive tipping pointIs it approaching the point where it becomes affordable, accessible and effective enough that the system begins to change on its own? Can it have a major impact within a decade?
  4. LeadershipIs there a credible team or founder with a clear track record of success and inclusive leadership?
  5. Evidence of impactCan the solution show measurable results to date, with numbers behind them, and a credible plan for scale?

Dates that do not move

How the 2027 nomination cycle runs.

Two deadlines are set by The Earthshot Prize and cannot be extended. We work to earlier dates so that every solution we put forward has time to prepare properly.

Finalists are announced ahead of the awards ceremony, where the five Winners are revealed. All Finalists are offered a year-long programme of support.

Before you put a solution forward

What we can and cannot do for you.

  • Nominating is our act, not our decision. We decide who we put forward. The Earthshot Prize assesses every nomination independently. Being nominated by us gives no advantage in that assessment.
  • We are not the only route. A solution may be nominated by more than one Official Nominator. Being nominated more than once does not affect its chances. If you have another route into the Prize, take it.
  • We nominate a small number of solutions. Nominator credibility is earned, and we would rather put forward a handful of strong nominations than many speculative ones. Most expressions of interest will not be nominated.
  • The Prize is a charitable grant. The £1m awarded to each Winner is a charitable grant that must be applied to charitable purposes. Where a winning organisation's activity is not charitable, the Prize works with the winner to direct the funds to an agreed grant recipient. Commercial ventures should plan around this.
  • If this is not your year, we will say so. Not every good solution is ready for a global prize. We will tell you what would need to change, and we will keep in touch.
